Academy-Graduate Mapisa Stars In Copa Del Rey

Congratulations to FC Malaga City academy-graduate Martin Mapisa, who played all 90 minutes for Zamora CF against La Liga side Villarreal CF - in the Copa Del Rey.

The Zimbabwean International goalkeeper joined FC Malaga City Academy in the Summer of 2018, from Aces Youth Soccer Academy (AYSA).

Originally joining the academy's youth teams, Mapisa was soon promoted to CD Almuñecar City - our senior team - where he earned a permanent move to Tercera División team Vélez CF.

After impressing with Vélez, the 22-year-old then transferred to Madrid-based Zamora CF - where he achieved promotion to Segunda Division B, the third tier of Spanish football.

Mapisa has featured twice this season in the Copa Del Rey, and made five important saves for Zamora against Unai Emery's men.

George Jermy, Academy Director, commented: "To see Martin playing in the Copa Del Rey against a team with the calibre of Villarreal is something we are all incredibly proud of.

"His work ethic, positive attitude and willingness to learn is outstanding - and we know that at just 22 years old, Martin has a bright future in the game.

"He is an exceptional role model for our current academy players, and we are proud to see Martin developing and achieving his dreams."

Congratulations from all of us at FC Malaga City Academy, Martin! 👏
