Sara D’appolonia, Danie Murray and Rosie Embley were all on target as the FC Málaga City Femenino side picked up a hugely impressive 3-0 victory away to UD Almería Femenino.
It didn’t take long for FCMC to settle against their Primera Nacional opponents and the visitors took an early lead when D’appolonia latched upon Isa Garcia-Salas’ perfectly weighted through ball and threaded her shot past the goalkeeper.
Adrián Domínguez watched on from the sideline as his side continued to freely create chances, with D’appolonia, Murray and Parker Lee all going close to extending the lead.
D’appolonia turned provider for her strike partner Murray in the 53rd minute, with the latter beating the ‘keeper at the near post with a great strike.
Just five minutes later, FCMC added a third goal when Rosie Embley whipped an in-swinging corner into the box, which sailed over the goalkeepers head and into the far corner of the net.
The feminino side continued to look threatening going forward and strong at the back. After picking up another clean-sheet, defender Trista Seara believes the team enjoy the challenge of playing teams from a higher level.
“I feel the game went really well,” the 22-year-old said. “We reflected a lot of what we’ve been working on in training with the coaches. Defensively, we were sound and really prevented the other team from penetrating and let our offense do what they do best.
“We’ve all been itching to play higher level teams. We really want that challenge and want to see where we are as a team. To see our weaknesses and strengths and work on them accordingly.”
The feminino side have started their inaugural league season with four consecutive victories, in which they’ve kept four clean-sheets and scored 40 goals. Seara spoke about what she is hoping to achieve with FCMC this season, including gaining promotion come the end of the season.
The defender said: “Personally, I am hoping for the team to get promoted at the end of the season. I like to take everything step by step, so our short-term goal is to win out the regular season and have no goals against; then take on the play-offs at the end of the season, win out and hopefully get promoted.”
