FC Málaga CIty Femenino rounded off their pre-season campaign with a hugely impressive 2-0 victory against Granada CF Femenino.
Granada Femenino, a Second División Pro side, were founded back in 2003 and have played one season in the top-flight in Spain – in the 2013-14 season.
Striker Brooklyn McLaughlin scored a memorable strike in the first-half to give the visitors the lead and the Canadian-national rounded off a fine performance with her second goal of the game late on.
McLaughlin, speaking after the game, said: “I’m very pleased with the way our team performed. I thought the game went very well. Every game, there’s going to be some mistakes that we need to correct in the next week.
“But building from the back, we’ve definitely improved from our first game and I feel like we’re coming along well.”
The striker continued: “It was an amazing experience (playing against Granada CF Femenino) because they’re in the second division and that’s definitely somewhere, where we want to be in the next two years if possible.
“I felt that it was a very intense game, different from our past ones, and I felt like it was good to see what we’re going up against in the long run.”
McLaughlin’s first goal will be talked about for some time. A throw-in from the right picked out the run of the 16-year-old, who let the ball come down her right side before striking across goal and into the far top corner of the net – a stunning strike.
Talking about the goal, she said: “I’ve been taught to always make runs in behind the back line because you can’t be offside on a throw-in. I made the same run that I usually make, the defender misjudged it and I got my hips around the ball and hit it.
“I had some luck behind it too and it flew into the far top corner.”
