FC Málaga City are delighted that six more of our Academy players have had trials with clubs playing in the Spanish league system and we’d like to congratulate them all.
Nick Hamzavi and Nicholas Paige, both of whom arrived at the academy from the United States, went on trial with División de Honor Juvenil side, CD Vázquez Cultural.
Paige, an Arizona-native, had prior experience playing here in Spain over the last 12 months, while Hamzavi is another player currently in his first season with FCMC and has DA league pedigree.
Three more of our Academy players were on trial at Estepona, a third-division pro side in the south of Spain, during the week. Ian Spiro, Elijah Smith and Ilham Yuda impressed and caught the eye of scouts while playing against their Under-23 team in a showcase game last weekend.
Smith is a Canadian centre-back in his first season with the Academy, Spiro is now into his second season here and Yuda is an winger from Indonesia, who had a hugely impressive performance against Estepona.
Jake Ratcliffe, a Canadian goalkeeper, went on trial at 26 de Febrero, another División de Honor Juvenil side with a fantastic pedigree and reputation for producing talented footballers in the region.
George Jermy, Director of FCMC Academy, said: “It's amazing to see the trials on a number of levels - once again the huge interest and respect for what we are doing so early into the process.
“But on a personal level, I am delighted, especially with the CD Estepona trials, as it follows in our club philosophy for using the showcase games to expose our players and from last Saturday’s game we have received the fruits of the boys fantastic performance.
“As an Academy, we are now piercing into top level clubs of the region with Estepona competing in the Tercera División at senior level and both Nick’s doing very well at a División de Honor level.
“Jake has followed in the footsteps of our goalkeeping department and also impressed at one of the best División de Honor clubs in Malaga currently.”
