Defender Trista Seara admitted FC Malaga City Femenino have their eyes “all set on promotion" - but will not be taking anything for granted in the second half of the season.
#FCMC Femenino have taken Segunda Andaluza Femenina (Málaga) by storm this campaign - winning all but one of their league games in the 2020/21 season.
After the winter break, the side returned to action with a bang after beating Atlético Portada Alta, but American defender Seara said the team are “reminded every day” of their objectives this season.
“Our eyes are all set on promotion, we want it for ourselves, each other and the club,” she said.
“In the second half of the season, we are going to focus on improving everyday: physically, technically and tactically.
“We are reminded every day before we train why we're here and what we want to achieve.
“We stay on top of what our bodies need like extra stretching and proper nutrition to ensure we all remain healthy for the remainder of the season."
The 22-year-old had a hugely successful four years playing for Mercy College, scoring eight goals – five of which were game-winning strikes - and a school record 20 assists in 76 games.
Seara, who resides from Lindenhurst, New York, was a three-time All-ECC selection, two-time All-Region honouree and team captain as a Maverick.
The defender settled straight into life in Spain with #FCMC, quickly becoming an ever-present at the back and despite Seara feeling the team aren’t playing their best football, she admitted every player is “working hard every day”.
She added: “We are feeling good with a win under our belt, but we are not content. We are not playing our best football yet, and we are working hard every day to improve.
“We expect higher scoring matches and a clean-sheet for the second half of the season, so to come back and get nine goals and none against is a sign we are heading in the right direction."
After scoring nine goals and keeping a clean-sheet on their return to competitive football after the winter break, Seara admitted she was also pleased with how the team ”stuck together” despite missing players and some playing out of position.
Seara said: “The team are still adjusting to the new players and trying to fill the holes that were left from players in the first half of the season, who were not able to get back into Spain due to COVID-19 restrictions.
“In the game against Portada Alta; a lot of players were playing out of position.
"We had a completely different back line with one of our goalies helping out on the field.
"Parker helped out in the midfield and we had a new player out on the wing.
“Given all the changes, the team stuck to the club's philosophy of knocking the ball side to side and maintaining control of the match.
"The competition wasn't the highest so I think we owed it to ourselves to finish more opportunities.”
