Arreola Pleased With "Important" Three Points

Defender Angel Arreola described the three points as “important” - as FC Malaga City Senior were triumphant over Atletico Benamiel.

Adrian Dominguez Igual’s side were 4-1 winners over Atletico Benamiel in Nerja - which kept them top of Primera Andaluza (Málaga).

The 18-year-old stressed the importance of the victory, though he believed there was room for improvement from the team

“The three points are very important considering the top of the table is very tight,” said Arreola.

“We know that CD Mijas are hunting us down, and are only two points away from us - but we must focus on ourselves and our game.

“We started the match strong with two early goals, but we started to slow down after that - which I feel is an opportunity missed, because Atletico Benamiel were there for the taking.

“I do not think we played our best today - and there are things we can improve upon, but the most important thing is getting those three points.

“We are happy to keep the momentum going and continue our unbeaten start to 2021.”

Arreola netted his first goal of the season for the side - scoring in the 48th minute with a volley from the edge of the penalty area.

He said: “I just remember the ball coming into me at the edge of the box - it just fell right to my feet. I had a strike with my right foot, which deflected back - and it was my instinct to volley it.

“It helped that the goalkeeper was quite short and stood off his line, but I will definitely take the goal - and I am happy to get my first of the season.

“It is important for defenders to chip in with goals, so between myself and other members of the backline - we are happy to keep scoring and helping the team every now and again.”

Angel joined FC Malaga City Academy at the beginning of the 2019/20 season - and represented the Under 19s side before progressing to senior football.

“Coming here is a very good opportunity for anyone - especially those with a hardworking attitude who want to better themselves,” he added.

“In the Under 19s, we had some really high-profile games against the likes of Barcelona, Valencia and Sevilla - which I really enjoyed - but playing mens football offers a different experience and I enjoy the challenge.

“My time in the Under 19s was a great experience and I learnt a lot - but I have always been focused on making the transition into mens football and being with FC Malaga City has allowed this.

“I’m very happy that I am playing senior mens football aged 19 - and I am playing in a team with players who have a lot of experience and have played at a higher level - so I am learning a lot.”
