Defender Pablo Lajeunesse admitted FC Malaga City Senior have to be “very focused” - going into this afternoon's game against Atlético Benamiel CF.
#FCMC currently occupy top spot in the table, but second-place CD Mijas are just one point behind them and level on games with six matches to go in Primera Andaluza (Málaga).
Lajeunesse, who marked his return from injury with a goal and an assist two weeks ago, has started in successive games since the winter break and believes the team can’t afford to drop any more points.
“It’s a tricky one because they’re at the bottom of the table, but they have had very good results against the top three or four teams in the league,” Lajeunesse said.
“They have won against the team in second, drew against the team in third and won against the team in fourth place, so it’s a tricky one and we have to be very, very focused because we lost two points last weekend.
“We have six games left until the first round is finished, so that’s six finals for the team and we really, really need these three points this weekend.”
After getting back to winning ways against Atlético de Marbella, #FCMC snatched a point when Kwinda struck home deep into stoppage time against Club Athletic Fuengirola.
Lajeunesse expressed his delight at the late equaliser, but admitted that the team weren’t happy to have dropped two points as #FCMC had “many chances” to go out of sight.
He said: “We were very happy to score in the final minute of the game, but not happy with the result at all. It should have never come to that. We played very well in the first-half, it looked like we had the game under control.
“We missed so many chances and should’ve definitely scored more goals in the first-half, which would’ve killed the game. We made a very stupid mistake with the red card in the second-half and that brought the other team back to life.
“We lost two points, in my opinion, and Adrián (Domínguez) said the same thing to us. Yes, we were happy to score in the very last second, but at the end of the day we lost two points and we should’ve won that game.”
