Midfielder Embley 'Excited' For Albacete Clash

Midfielder Rosie Embley expressed her “excitement” - as FC Malaga City Femenino return to action with a trip to Albacete Balompié this evening.

#FCMC Femenino will travel to the Ciudad Deportiva Andrés Iniesta to face Albacete in a friendly match ahead of their return to league action at the weekend.

Adrián Domínguez’s team remain unbeaten in Segunda Andaluza (Granada), and English playmaker Embley admitted the side are looking forward to the test that Albacete will provide.

“We’re all really excited,” Embley said.

“It’s been a while since our last competitive league game, which was before the Christmas break.

“I know the girls have had a few friendlies since they’ve come back but this is our first real test since the turn of the year.

“It’s a chance for the team to test themselves against a team in the division above. It should be a really good opportunity for us.

“We’re really thankful that we’re able to have friendlies like this and hopefully league play will get back underway this weekend.

“We’re due to take on UD Antequera, so that should be a tough game but we’re just excited to get going again.”

Crewe-native Embley was a student-athlete with the University of North Georgia Nighthawks before her career took her out to the south coast of Spain.

The 22-year-old played 73 games for the Nighthawks during her four years at college and has settled into life in the Spanish league system.

Given the situation all around the world at the moment, Embley acknowledged just how fortunate the team are to be playing the sport they all love.

The midfielder said: “We’re extremely privileged to be in an environment that we’re operating in. Other teams in our league, if their towns shut down, they can’t even go to training or any games.

“We’re just thankful that day-in and day-out we can train, we can go to the gym, we can do our sessions at Marae, and just focus on why we’re here and what the aim is at the end of the season - to get promoted.

“We’re able to work on that every day and we’re extremely lucky.”

#FCMC Femenino have been preparing for their return to league action with friendlies over the last few weeks, including a trip up to Madrid.

Embley and the team were victorious against CD Villaconejos, and the 22-year-old midfielder said it was good to go up against a side from a “different region”.

“It was nice to test ourselves against a team from a different region of Spain to get a different idea of the teams at our level,” Embley said.

“I arrived back in the country the week before, so to get out and be able to get some minutes under my belt almost straight away was ideal.

“It was good to come away with the win but again, we could learn from that game. It was a good score line, but there are a lot of things that we’ve since improved on and worked on after that test.”
